Latest Primeval news - September 2009

Having been cancelled by ITV due to the cost of production Primeval is to return to our screens.

Filming has started on Series 4 and 5 of the ITV series Primeval. Series 4 is due to be broadcast by ITV in early 2011. In a deal to help produce the series the pay TV channel Watch will air series 5 in late 2011 with ITV broadcasting it in 2012.

A total of 13 episodes are being made and these will become series 4 and 5.

Investigating strange sightings of an unknown animal in the Forest of Dean Professor Nick Cutter is an evolutionary zoologist who finds himself confronted with the subject of his studies in a way he could never have imagined. Could a small lizard, picked up by a young boy in the woods, really be an entirely new species?

As night falls Cutter and his team find the forest has become a menacing place and they come face to face with a Scutosaurus, a giant vegetarian beast straight from the Permian Era of 250 million years ago. More worrying is the sight of dead cow hauled high into a tree.

The young boy's tales of a flesh hungry monster at his window may sound like nonsense to his mother, but his story confirms Cutter's worst fears... A savage Gorgonopsid, one of the most dangerous predators of the Permian Era is on the loose.

Where on earth are these creatures coming from? An evolutionary throwback? An experimental hybrid? The Scutosaurus leads the team to their answer.

Prehistoric creatures have burst through a rip in time.
