And
It's Goodnight From Him
Ronnie Barker
(25/9/1929 - 3/10/2005) was born in Bedford. In 1956, he landed his first
radio job and two years later, appeared in Frankie Vaughan's first film, Wonderful
Things! Ronnie then went on to appear in The Navy Lark
and The
Seven Faces of Jim, starring Jimmy Gilbert.
In
1966 he joined The Frost Report as a sketch-writer and performer. It
was on this show that he met his future comedy partner Ronnie Corbett.
This led to the stalwart of many a Saturday night BBC schedule The Two
Ronnies. His speciality was as a wordsmith showing off his love of the
English Language. He also wrote many sketches under the guise of
Gerald Wiley.
But he wasn't
just one half of a double act. He had many highly successful sitcoms
such as Porridge and Open All Hours.
