Don't
Knock The Rock
Bill
Haley (6/7/1925 - 9/2/1981) and his Comets are credited by many with the
birth of Rock and Roll.
Over
half a century ago in 1954 Bill Haley gave birth to teenage culture with 'Rock Around The
Clock'. The song featured a hard driving beat,
immortal guitar solo and a wonderful crescendo of an ending. The world
marvelled at the antics of the group, in particular Rudy Pompilli (tenor
sax) would belt out the sax solos, arching his back until he was virtually
lying on the floor, and Al Rex (bass) throwing his bass guitar up into the
air and then jumping onto its' side while still playing it.
